On July 19, 2017 Officer John Pettit was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the Board of Trustees meeting in front of family, friends & colleagues. Officer Pettit has served with the Brimfield Police Department for over 10 years, and will transition to serve as our midnight shift patrol supervisor.
Sgt. Knarr visited with the senior residents at Altercare today for a “meet and greet” with K-9 Havoc and K-9 Recon. They had a great time meeting with everyone, and thank-you to the residents and the staff for hosting us this morning!
Meet K-9 Recon! Recon is a German Shepard pup provided to our Department through Buckeye Area Regional K-9 (BARK). Recon will begin preliminary training soon with Sgt. Knarr. K-9 Recon shares a bloodline with prior K-9’s that have served our Brimfield community, and he will be out and about soon.
On Friday June 23rd, BPD partnered with the Ohio State Patrol, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Kent PD, and Kent State University PD to conduct an OVI Checkpoint on SR#43 in our community. Three arrests were made for OVI along with two additional arrests for drug related offenses. Thank-you to our county law enforcement partners for their assistance.

Two suspects were caught breaking into a construction trailer at Prescott Pike early morning 06/01/2017 while armed with a stolen handgun. The stolen handgun was a 9mm Smith & Wesson MP Shield reported stolen in Wayne County by its rightful owner. BPD recently participated in the statewide “Click It or Ticket” seat belt safety initiative kick off event held at Aurora Premium Outlets. In addition to BPD, participating agencies were Kent PD, Kent State PD, Hiram PD, Streetsboro PD, Aurora PD, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Patrol. BPD Officers, along with Brimfield Fire, Suffield Fire, the Ohio State Patrol, and the Portage County Coroner’s Office were on hand at Field High School in advance of FHS prom to put on a mock DUI crash scene for the students.
